I chose metal knitting because I wanted to present the effect of holding ears of wheat in my hands at harvest time, and as farmers' hands are definitely rougher, I felt that the texture of metal knitting would present the feeling of a rougher hand, so I chose metal knitting. There are also many different ways to knit metal, but many of them can be borrowed from the normal wool knitting methods. One of the knitting methods I chose this time is called loop weave, which is actually a study of the ruth asawa knitting method. If I get the chance, I hope to try out more knitting methods in the future.

In the first step I chose the wire to learn the weave of the object I had chosen in ilea to see if I could have the same texture, but because the thickness was different I couldn't follow the wheaten weave and had to change to a new weave.

For the second step I chose a thinner metallic thread and by learning how to knit from ruth asawa, I first made a bell like shape for experimentation and then after learning how to knit, I knitted an image of hands holding a mound of rice.

I wanted to make a hand frame out of slightly thicker wire than this metal weave, so I made a model of the hand out of ceramic first, and then went on to make the hand frame out of wire based on the model of the hand.
